There’s another reason to celebrate passenger rail in North Carolina!
All Aboard NC Chair Beau Mills recently joined transportation and rail leaders for the unveiling of NC By Train’s new America 250 locomotive wrap, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The specially wrapped locomotive will become part of the passenger rail service North Carolinians see traveling between Raleigh and Charlotte each day.
For us, the celebration feels especially fitting. Rail has played an extraordinary role in the story of our state and nation—connecting communities, supporting commerce, and helping shape the places we call home. As America celebrates 250 years, we have an opportunity to appreciate that rich history while also looking ahead to what the next chapter of passenger rail can bring.
And there is plenty to look forward to. With record ridership, major new investments, and plans for expanded passenger rail service across North Carolina, our state’s rail story is still being written.

Keep the Celebration Going
Later this month, North Carolina will play host to an even bigger celebration of America’s rail history. The N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer will host the America 250 Locomotive Celebration, August 28–30, bringing together commemorative locomotives from passenger, freight, regional, and short-line railroads from across the country.
